Goodbyes are like the delicate wings of a butterfly—beautiful, intricate, and tender. They hold a complexity that is both fleeting and profound. Recently, I found myself facing such a moment as I concluded a year of hosting my bi-monthly podcast, The Empowered Living Zone™, with Transformation Talk Radio. Saying goodbye to Dr. Pat Baccili and her incredible team, who had been instrumental in making my vision a reality, was bittersweet. Yet, in that goodbye, I found something profound: the gifts within the act of letting go.

For almost three years, I’ve worked with a personal transformational life coach who has profoundly changed my life. Through our coaching together, she has helped me peel back the layers of my limited narratives, perfectionism, and survival-driven habits that ultimately caused me a great deal of emotional pain and kept me playing small. She introduced me to grit, grace, and guidance in our work—a trifecta that has become a cornerstone of my healing and transformation. This simple yet profound wisdom resonated deeply with me, not just because of its spiritual truth but because it aligned with my own journey. It challenged me to see where I had relied too heavily on grit, where I had resisted grace, and how I had shut myself off from guidance. These lessons, drawn from my struggles and growth, have shaped who I am today.

In April of this year, I stepped into a space that forever shifted my experience of belonging. I was invited to speak at the Colorado Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (CO-ALAS) annual conference, a gathering of dedicated leaders committed to elevating Latino voices in education. Later in November, I returned as a presenter for the CO-ALAS Latina Leadership Conference. Between these two experiences, I discovered something extraordinary—not in the speaking engagements themselves, but in the moments before, during the pre-conference mixers and receptions.

In my decades of experience as a clinical psychologist and board-certified life coach, I’ve guided clients through some of the most challenging crossroads of their lives. I’ve helped them navigate past tangled webs of doubt, indecision, and fear, walking alongside them as they move toward clarity and purpose. Every so often, I meet someone whose decision-making process is not just complicated but convoluted and tangled—a self-spun web designed to keep them in perpetual motion, yet going nowhere. Recently, I had one such encounter.

We’ve all been there—building up a moment in our minds, only to feel the sting of disappointment when reality falls short of the picture we painted. Expectations have a way of pulling us out of the moment, distracting us from the richness of what’s actually happening. Let me share a personal story that perfectly illustrates this dilemma.

Imposter Syndrome is something many of us experience at some point in our lives, whether we are seasoned professionals, students, or successful entrepreneurs. Despite the term’s widespread use, Imposter Syndrome is not a clinical diagnosis, and it does not mean something is inherently wrong with you. Almost everyone feels like an imposter from time to time. Research shows that as high as 84% of people, including CEOs, small business owners, and women executives, have experienced imposter feelings. But what is it exactly, and more importantly, how can we overcome it?
